Pasted In Pictures Lewis Carroll was one of the finest photographers of children of his time. He pasted a picture of Alice Liddell into the end of the handwritten book "Alice's Adventures Underground" which he gave to Alice for Christmas in 1864. This historical personalization is the reason for the emphasis on inclusion of the child's picture in this modern adaptation of the "Alice" book. Morton N. Cohen recenty discovered that the pasted in picture concealed the only known sketch Lewis Carroll made of Alice Liddell. Both are shown below. The original oval picture was about 3 inches high and 2 inches wide (3" x 2"). The sketch was hidden for over 100 years. Large pictures are harder to paste in and have them look well, without unbalancing the look and feel of the page. That is the reason for providing only a small 4" x 5" adhesive mount in the book kit. The oval is also far easier to prepare and place in the document compared to the rigid look and feel of the square photo-mount. The oval photo is highly recommended, square photos come loose a lot easier.
